Family portrait session - Cocoa Beach, FL

When you live in Florida, it's not uncommon for extended family to come down here to visit.  I mean, why not?  The weather is gorgeous, the beaches are sunny and beautiful, and you can still wear flip flops in the middle of winter.

Most of this family already lives here in Florida.  When their sister and her family came down for a visit over the holidays, they decided to schedule a family portrait session and save some of these memories.

They had a small window of opportunity that, unfortunately, fell right in the middle of the day.  But we made the most of it and captured some great images in the midst of it all.

I'll usually get some group shots first, when everybody is still fresh and ready to pose.

But it doesn't take long to turn the kids loose and just let them play and enjoy their surroundings.  I keep the camera ready and just keep shooting!

These times when everyone is together . . . .they get more and more rare.

So these moments are worth hanging onto . . . for a lifetime!

Family reunions can really be a lot of fun to photograph.  All the different dynamics and personalities tend to translate into some great moments.  When this family contacted me to set up a session over the holidays, I don't think I fully realized just how much joy they would bring that day.

The beach was a perfect setting with the beautiful blue sky and fluffy clouds overhead.  The crashing waves and sandcastles were the final touches to a fantastic late afternoon.

I loved this idea!!

They reenacted a family photo that they took when the kids were much younger.  I gave them a black and white version to match the older photo on their wall.

Winter in Florida is best shared with those you love!

Family portrait session - Orlando, Florida

Fall in Florida is still very warm.  While other parts of the country may be hugging pumpkin spice lattes and wearing boots and scarfs; we are often still wearing flip flops and running our A/C.  Thankfully, when I met this family for a photo session, it was breezy and a bit cooler.  When they showed up wearing some beautifully coordinated fall colors, I knew their pictures would be vibrant.  When they were all willing to climb a tree for a family photo - I knew I'd hit the jackpot!  What a great evening together with Mike and Michelle and their two boys.

Family portraits

Taking pictures of your own family is difficult.  Trust me, I understand :)  I'm a professional photographer and it's hard for me to take the time to get professional shots of my own sons. When they are all together, I usually want to just enjoy their company and not organize a photo session.  I'm guessing you feel the same way.  But time marches on and you need to remember these days.  It won't necessarily get easier to capture these moments, but it will always be worth it!

I listened to my own advice recently and made the time to take my sons out for a photo shoot. They live in three different locations, so having them together is rare.  I needed to take advantage of that reunion!

I love the combination of candids and posed.  Their true personalities are shining through!

You've probably got family reunions coming up yourself.  Or just special times with family or friends that you see regularly.  I'd love to capture those moments for you so you can relive those special times together.  Don't let another season pass you by.  Drop me a note or give me a call.  I'd love to hear from you :)

Location, location, location!

Shortly after a new client contacts me, the question inevitably comes up as to where I would recommend we do a photo session.  Where would be a good location for us to do the shoot?  I get it!  It's usually the next big decision after you make the choice to book a photo session.  And quite honestly, there are so many options!  I actually have a list that I keep of different locations based on the style.  Are you interested in the beach style, or near the river?

Would you prefer lots of trees or more of an urban feel?

How about wide open fields or a worn and abandoned look?

No matter what feel you're looking for, I'm excited about finding the perfect location for you and making it memorable and fun!!  Are you looking for something specific that I haven't even mentioned here?  Leave a comment and let me know.  We can work together and make it happen!

Family portrait session - Satellite Beach, FL

This summer has been full, and it seems to be a common feeling from most everyone I talk to.  Our summer days always appear to go by too fast and are gone before we know it.  No doubt,  these days are filled with traveling, along with family and friends visiting from out of town.  When you have extended family come to town, it's always a great idea to capture those times together on camera. I met with this family the day before their parents/grandparents were due to fly back home. We wanted to get some great family shots before they had to say goodbye.

And some of my favorites  . . .  :)

Be sure to take the time to capture some memories on camera while everyone is together.  It's always worthwhile!!

Family portrait session - near Cocoa, FL

I've known this family for years.  So when their oldest daughter contacted me and said she and her brother wanted to gift a photo session to their mom for Mother's Day, I was very excited!!

We chose a beautiful park just west of Cocoa.  The storm clouds were rolling in and we pretty much had the entire park to ourselves.  When the rain did hit, we easily dashed under a covered pavilion and waited it out.  The sun was back and shining within a few minutes.

I loved their energy and enthusiasm throughout our whole time together.  It made for some very fun photos!

I had such a great time with this family!

Give me a call when you're ready to schedule a fun portrait session.  It will be so worth it!! :)

Family portrait session - Cocoa Beach, Florida

The weather recently has been hit or miss as far as rain.  When I scheduled a portrait session with this family we knew we had a 50/50 chance of getting rained out.  Nevertheless, we continued to move forward and plan the time together.  Even within an hour of our meeting time, it was still raining off and on and we weren't sure it was going to happen.  By the time we connected it had slowed down to a drizzle and we ventured to the beach for a delightfully cooler evening - and no rain :)

As you can see, this family is incredibly photogenic.  I so enjoyed our time together!  And their dog . . . so cool!!

Don't let the possibility of rain stop you from scheduling a portrait session.  We'll make the most of our time together.

And it just might wear the dog out too! ;)

Family portrait session - Melbourne Beach

The weather here in Florida has been quite near perfect lately.  The humidity is low, the temps are mid to high 70's, the ocean is a beautiful blue, and the skies are mostly clear and sunny.  Every February I think to myself, "I wish it could just stay like this all year long".

It was on one of those perfect evenings recently that I met a wonderful family down at the beach to capture some memories in the sand by the ocean.  Their daughter was turning three!  What a magical age :)

There is just so much to explore and discover at the beach!  It's the perfect setting for portraits and candid photos.

You can't help but smile when the sand is between your toes!!
